10 Foods to Avoid if You Want Abs

Six packs are the best. Everyone loves a good six pack. They give you a reason to lift up your shirt and flex at anything that offers some sort of reflection.

Unfortunately getting one is not as easy. A big reason why is because we all love food more than we love situps, starving ourselves, and avoiding foods that taste good.

It is a lot easier to go down 10 wings or 15 wings at an all you can eat wing buffet with the bros than it is to say no and eat a salad instead.

There are _ Foods that must be avoided like the plague if you want abs.

These foods are calorie bombs that will take weeks or days to burn off and they are detremental to your six pack.

These foods will stop you right in your tracks of getting a six pack.

Liquid Calories

drinks to avoid if you want abs

Liquid calories are drinks or beverages that are pretty much anything besides water.

Yup. Pretty much everything besides water.

Liquid calories are drinks that are full of sugars or fats that will go straight to your gut.

They are detrimental to your six pack because they are easy to consume, they come in big portions, and some of them may even seem healthy.

So throw out your big gulp or chug jug and pick up a water bottle.

1. Soda

foods you must avoid if you want abs

You know soda is bad for you. So why do you keep drinking it?

Well because it’s good and is full of artificial sweeteners, sugars, and high fructose corn syrup.

And all those six pack killings sweeteners taste good.

Those sugars are empty calories that will just go straight to your gut.

Soft drinks should instead be replaced with water, water with fruit infused, water with some extra water, or water. (Get the idea?)

It’s time to cut soda out of your diet. Cold Turkey style.

Stop Right Now.

2. Juices

Juices are healthy…in moderation.

Fruit juices are full of fruit sugars that aren’t necissarily that good for you.

Sugar is sugar.

Fruit juices are better than soda because they come with vitamins and nutrients that soda in no form offers.

But what you really have to watch out for and run for the hills is when you see juices with added sugar on top of the sugar all ready in the juice!!

Juice is already sweet enough but adding extra sugars on top of that is asking to have a gut for the rest of time.

3. Beer/Alcohol

avoid beer if you want abs

Beer is a harder one to give up for a lot of you.

Beer is full of sugar and carbohydrates that will bloat your gut and add a size or two around your waist.

There is a reason why people who drink a ton of beer have a “beer belly”.

It’s in the name!

So cut out the alcohol with sugar in it.

4. Cheeses

cheese must be avoided if you want abs

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a diet rich in medium-chain triglycerides, as opposed to long-chain triglycerides, diminished overall abdominal fat.

Long-chain trigycerides are in all dairy products.

What this means is eating foods filled with medium-chain triglycerides over foods with long-chain triglycerides will help you on your journey to a six pack and cutting down stomach fat.

Cheese is packed with calories and enough saturated fats that will make you think twice about ever eating cheese again.

As with all things there are bad things, good things, and better things.

With cheese the same rule of thumb applies.

As many of us know the French don’t shy away from cheeses but they do so in a smart way.

They stay far away from processed, melted cheese, and eat small portions of additive-free fromage instead.

So if you want a slimmer midsection follow what the French do with their cheeses.

5. Processed Meats

Meats are a great way to get protein in your diet that will be essential to building up muscle.

But processed meats are meats that have an unnecessary high amount of fats and saturated fats in them.

Fish and chicken are better alternatives, so try out some salmon, tilapia, tuna, chicken, or….umm chicken.

With that being said there are two main sources of protein that you should avoid like the plague.

These two foods can DESTROY any diet plan your on and set you back days!

6. Wings

Wings are calorie bombs that are full of fat, saturated fat, and more fat on top of that. And wings are nothing without the sauces to dip them in.

At some places, a plate of wings could equate to all the calories you’re supposed to have in one day!!!

SO avoid wings at all costs.

7. Bacon

This one is a tough pill to swallow.

Everyone loves bacon.

Or at least that’s a stereotype that has been thrown around since the beginning of time…

Anyways, bacon is a food many people love but it is the epitome of fat, saturated fat, more fat, and fat layered on fat.

All this fat is really what makes it good, but you’ve got to cut it out of your diet if you want a slimmer midsection!

All hope is not lost though.

There are some great alternatives to bacon that won’t bloat or kill your gut.

One great alternative is turkey bacon.

It’s not as oily or fatty but if you can’t not have bacon then turkey bacon is for you!

8. Bread

Refined carbohydrates like bread, especially white bread, should be limited in your daily diet.

One study found that diets rich in “dense acellular carbohydrates” promote inflammation and weight gain.

You don’t need to totally cut bread out of your diet, all you need to do is limit it and find a balance that works for you!

I mean who doesn’t love bread!!! (excluding people with celiac disease…)

White bread should be limited in your diet and whole-grain options should instead be selected!

Whole grain wheat products have more nutritional value and will keep you feeling full longer!

9. Sugar Cocaine

Sugar cocaine.

It’s something we all love, are addicted to, and hate ourselves for loving.

Sugar cocaine is anything that is packed with only sugar, fats, and more sugar on top of it.

Foods like cake, ice cream, candy, cupcakes, and all sugary sweets fit in this category and can
be likened to cocaine.

Some other foods that can be added to the sugar cocaine list are foods that act like they are healthy or for weight loss but are packed with sugar, salts and fat!!

“Healthy Bars” like nature valley bars are full of sugar and calories that aren’t the best for you if you are trying to get abs!

All sugar cocaines are VERY addicting, VERY good, and we all always find ourselves reaching for them or walking down the sugar or cake isle in the grocery store without consciously doing so.

These foods are something we all eat and struggle cutting from our diet.

It is a constant battle everyday where you win some days and lose epicly other days.

As hard as it is, these foods must be cut from your diet if your trying to slim down your midsection because they are full of sugar and calories that will blast away your six pack in as little as one cupcake. (jk it will probably take 2 or 3 cupcakes but don’t take that chance)

If you can’t cut them completely, then have a little self control and limit them as much as possible or make planned sugar cocaine sessions.

10. Fast Food

Fast food is a gut killer that must be limited in your diet.

Fast food is easy, it tastes good, and it is relatively cheap.

The price we pay with this modern day convience in every food is excessive calories, subpar ingriedints, a ton of sodium, and too much fat.

If you can it is far better to cook your own meals or prep in advance so you can avoid the temptation of fast food as you are driving home from work or when you’re feeling hungry.

Try to limit it to once a week, or even less if you can!!

Final Thoughts

These 8+ foods/ food categories must be avoided if you want to get a six pack.

If you don’t, these foods will kill your six pack and it will be very hard to get a chiseled midsection.

We all make mistakes in our diet plan, but when you make one, don’t completely quit. Keep on going with the diet and try to do better the next day.

Over time you’ll get in the habit of finding better alternatives to the foods that you’ve cut from your diet and you’ll have a chiseled and sexy 6 pack in no time!

Cheers.
